Futsal Friendly Games with a Referee

Friendly games (friendlies) if one of the ways to prepare a team for a battle. Friendlies simulate a tournament match situation – simulate a competition. This is one of the best ways to test your players both mentally and psychically.

During friendlies it is easier for a coach to see the condition which players are in, to see what aspects of a game should be improved. In order to make friendly games as more useful and helpful as possible here are two important tips for you as a futsal manager.

First of all - friendlies should be played with a referee! Most professional teams play all their friendlies as if it is a tournament game. Means – a game is judged by a referee. Although this aspect is usually neglected in amateur futsal. Nevertheless it is a vital aspect which should not be underestimated. A friendly game judged by a referee will be more tensed and more seriously taken by your players. As a result your players will learn a lot more.

It is not that hard to find a referee for a friendly game. Although it's important for a manager to be able to do it for his team. Here are some ways to find a referee for a friendly:

• Ask your local futsal or football referee organization if they can provide you with a referee for your friendly – usually there is no problem. You will probably need to pay organization for the service of a referee. If you lack financial resources, tell that to refereeing organization and ask them to provide you with the best referee for amount of money you have. Split the price for refereeing service between your team and opponent's team;
• Ask some of your colleges or friends in futsal community weather they know a good referee to judge your friendly game;
• If you have no money and no friends who can help you to find a referee, a best way is to ask one of the players to referee.You can also put two referees to a match: one is a player from your team, second is a player from your opponent's team. This will be fair and will exclude the risk of a conflict of interest.

Remember – a coach should not, under any circumstances, referee his team's friendly game. His job is to watch a game, make notes, comments, substitutions, correct tactics etc.

Second aspect of making friendly games more effective and useful is to play exact same amount of time as you usually play in a tournament. International futsal standards are 2 periods 20 minutes each. This time frame will teach your players how to distribute their energy and effort for exactly the length of futsal match. This will also give an opportunity for a coach to learn how to apply his game strategy during exactly 40 minutes. This will be very useful during tournament games.
